The best lead magnets are: specific (not "the ultimate guide to marketing" — instead "the 11-point website audit checklist"), immediately useful (no fluff, no upsells inside the PDF), and tied to a real customer problem.

For service businesses, multiple lead magnets segmented by buyer intent perform far better than one generic magnet. A visitor downloading "How to hire a web designer" is in different buyer state than someone grabbing "local SEO checklist" — and the email sequence that converts each is different.

Why it matters
