What is Conversion Rate?

The percentage of visitors who complete a desired action — submitting a form, calling the phone number, booking a consult.

Also known as: CVR, form conversion rate

Conversion rate is the ratio of visitors who take a defined action to total visitors. Most service businesses measure form-submission conversion rate, phone-call conversion rate, and (where applicable) appointment-booking conversion rate.

Industry benchmarks vary wildly: the average B2B form conversion rate is around 2-4%; high-performing service-business sites hit 5-10%; the very best convert at 15%+. The variables that matter most: hero clarity, form length, social proof, mobile responsiveness, page speed, and CTA specificity.

Measuring conversion rate correctly requires server-side tracking (so adblockers don't deflate numbers), a defined denominator (total visitors vs unique visitors vs sessions), and a clearly attributed conversion event (form submitted AND validated AND not a bot).

Why it matters

Conversion rate is the multiplier on every dollar of marketing spend. Doubling your conversion rate doubles the value of every ad click, every organic visit, every referral.
