What is Local Pack?

The three business listings Google displays above the normal organic results for local searches, with a map. The most-clicked real estate in local search.

Also known as: 3-pack, map pack, Google 3-pack

The local pack is the set of three local business listings that Google displays at the top of the search results page for queries with local intent. It includes a map, three business names, ratings, and a 'View more' link to expand the full local results.

Ranking in the local 3-pack requires a strong Google Business Profile, citation consistency across directories, recent and frequent reviews, and proximity to the searcher's location. The website's local SEO contributes but doesn't dominate — most of the ranking is determined by signals outside the site.

Businesses that rank in the 3-pack get the lion's share of clicks for local queries. The fourth-place business through tenth-place businesses split the remaining traffic from the expanded local listings page, which is often a 90% drop-off.

Why it matters

Being in the 3-pack is often the difference between a thriving local business and a struggling one. The visibility and click-through rate are exponentially higher than ranking even one position below.
